In 1993, when Ed Carson became a grandfather for the first time, he wanted to do more than just pass out cigars to commemorate the birth of his granddaughter. Ed was looking for a Hershey’s milk chocolate bar when he finally found one and exclaimed, “HERE SHE IS.”
Ed used his computer, desktop printer, and creative mind to design a pink wrapper that said “HERESHEIS” and fit it around a HERSHEY’S chocolate bar. His granddaughter Elise’s name, birth weight, and time of birth were all recorded.
He first advertised the chocolate birth announcements in hospital gift shops in the Cincinnati region, and then he started giving free samples of HERESHEIS and HERSHEY’S candy bars to expectant women throughout the United States.
